We are seeking a Senior Medical Officer to join us in a 0.8FTE position on a permanent basis.

To be successful in this role, you will need to be a team player but also have the ability to work autonomously, and be passionate about rehabilitation and working within an inter-disciplinary team.

The role requires broad based rehabilitation medicine experience dealing with adult stroke, traumatic and non-traumatic brain injury, neurodegenerative conditions and reconditioning.

The role comprises inpatient ward cover, in-reach to Christchurch Hospital, supporting early rehabilitation and early community discharge for stroke and supporting the Adult Community Therapy Service (ACTS). The role also requires providing medical support to traumatic brain injury patients in collaboration with the community facility that provides this service in Christchurch.

The procedural skills required for the job include, but not limited to, spasticity management for Stroke and other neurodegenerative conditions. Although experience with Botulinum toxin injection is desirable, there are opportunities to develop these skills within the role.

The successful candidate will be part of the Burwood Adult Rehabilitation Roster 1:5/1:6 and include covering Burwood Spinal Unit as part of the adult rehabilitation on call out of hours and cover clinics and ward rounds in the spinal unit as required. It is desirable to have adequate Spinal injuries experience as part of Rehabilitation Medicine training.

There is a good teaching programme for trainees within the service and the successful candidate will be involved in teaching and training of the rehabilitation Medicine trainees.

There are provisions for protected CME time as per MECA guidelines and a strong focus on continuous quality improvement initiatives within the service.
